Human Activity Modelling from Mobile Phone Sensors
Idiap Research Institute,
Martigny (Switzerland)
Dr.
Gatica-Perez is a senior researcher at Idiap Research Institute and
teaches at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne,
Switzerland. He directs the social computing group at Idiap,
developing computational models to analyze human behaviour from
sensor data. His research integrates methods from multimedia signal
processing, machine learning, ubiquitous computing, and elements from
social sciences to address questions related to the discovery,
recognition and prediction of behaviour of individuals, groups, and
communities in real life. His recent work has studied small groups at
work in multisensor spaces, individuals using cell phones in urban
environments, and on-line communities in web social media. His work
has been supported by the Swiss and the US governments and by the
European Commission. He currently serves on the Editorial Board of
the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, Image and Vision Computing,
Machine Vision and Applications, and the Journal of Ambient
Intelligence and Smart Environments, and was Guest Co-Editor of the
IEEE Computer Magazine Special Issue on Human-Centered Computing.
Daniel got his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of
Washington in 2001.
